sexually active

I have been sexually active with my partner for around 3 years now. I had no bleeding the first time we did it. Is this normal?

Dear Sexually-active,

Yes, its is common for a woman to not bleed the first time she has sex. Women bleed because of the breaking of the hymen which is a tissue that covers the opening of the vagina. Your hymen can break or tear during various activities like sports or bicycle riding so that is why you may not have bled during your first sexual encounter.
