The Last Stanza

Strangers in Love

I feel no more the pains of the world
I wish not to share them.
Human I am and human let me be.

The heart was broken once;
The pieces do not fit together now.
What was lost is lost forever.

Do not speak; don’t tell me your secrets;
Let’s remain strangers and yet be friends.
For it’s strangeness that keeps us together;
Familiarity will do us apart.

No love; no lust; no words to share;
Just an eternal silence
And an assurance that you are there

Life is long but the end is approaching.
Promise me, as we part,
To erase all that’s mine from this world

For I wish not to be a part of it.

I felt the same the other day, when she walked by me. Not even looking. I know what the author might have felt like.
