The Last Stanza
Load Shedding
I say there is no rationality
Behind this social disparity
That the taste of freedom and democracy
Is reserved for you and not for me
Sold to the highest bidder
To the writer and not the reader
Bought by the self-appointed leader
Who imprisons the children’s feeder
Hope is lost in perpetual darkness
Disconnected from the world
Blindfolded in sadness
But you know the reason for this public madness
Of technology we can only have a little taste
Education at the highest level is going to waste
Our future is diminishing before us in such haste
And patriotism is classified and therefore misplaced
Politicians ignoring our empty plates
Driven by greed, dictating our fates
To a hungry stomach no one relates
And you wonder why our heart only hates?
They tax us for every step we take
For every time we sleep and every time we wake
While every promise issued is certifiably fake
And they ask us why we rebel when our souls are at stake
Every breath we take is polluted
All of our rights have been looted
The situation is convoluted
In perpetual darkness we are all suited
Happy load-shedding everyone
Someday the only light we’ll see is the sun
And yet our struggles have only just begun
Our leaders have their fingers on the trigger of the gun
Don’t let them turn the light off of your soul
Break free from the ignorance they imposed to control
Don’t let this darkness make you surrender your goal
And take back the once radiant country they stole
And take back the once radiant country they stole

The words flow so effortlessly, almost as if the poem should have been a song. The lyrical pattern of the rhymes is so smooth that it is easy to overlook all the symbolism, metaphors and meaning attached to every chosen word. However, pay a little attention and the poet is a genius. This poem is a like a smooth cocktail that tastes so good you don't even notice how intoxicated you are at the final drop, until you try to stand up and fall face first to the ground. Very nice work. I am hoping to read more in the future.
