Ode to My City
this is my city
its narrow streets clogged with burning passion.
ancient temples that have stood the test of time and
secret lovers.
silent idols bowed to, prayed to and died for.
this is my city
unlike what the Catholic said
I belong here
with its tiers burning my eyes
so much red it could drown all the bourgeois.
absorbing every soul that enters this wooden temple
overflowing like the dumpsters into the streets
reeking of mellow yesteryears...
this is my city
its narrow streets clogged with burning passion.
ancient temples that have stood the test of time and
secret lovers.
silent idols bowed to, prayed to and died for.
this is my city
unlike what the Catholic said
I belong here
with its tiers burning my eyes
so much red it could drown all the bourgeois.
absorbing every soul that enters this wooden temple
overflowing like the dumpsters into the streets
reeking of mellow yesteryears.
this is my city
a haven for discontent followers in search of
the teachers whose eye watch
over the restless millions
waiting to escape in the holy river-the same one
they've crapped in all their lives.
this is my city
its mystery and tranquility raped
by horns and unconcerned pimps dwelling by the dozen
in its majestic durbars.
this is my city
where all are equal
if you have the right name, and the coins to throw at people
and law is just an entertainment the privileged can afford.
this is my city
for whose uncertain future a nation
is deprived
of hopes, & dreams and necessities.
and shaky red buildings with watery black caps mushroom
in this city of mine
which stands on the solid grounds of collective indifference.
Very emotive , very compelling and certainly exploring the realm of humanity.. Good work...looking forward to the next installation:)
Thanks for the comments...and inquires .."unlike what the Catholic said I belong here" refers to the Catholic saint- St. Augustine of Hippo, who suggests that man does not belong to his/her individual cities and kingdoms on earth but to the city of god. He suggests that our our purpose is to find entrance into that city.
hmm..augustine's city of god reference? didn't really get that.
but its a good poem. i like it.

what did the catholic say?
