  • Leaves turn a brilliant red when ripe.
Dew drops so round can roll on leaves.
    Mossy walls so green!
The moon can be seen even on cobalt day skies.
    These things were always there.

    But now with you
    I see

  • A flickering diyo light
    Is all that remains.

    A dark night
    And a lonely temple.

    No pilgrims,
    No priests,
    No devotees.

    The deity finally rests
    Among fermenting flowers.

“Solitude” has previously been published in the collection “Fermenting Flowers.”
